Sambor Prei Kuk Temples - Kampong Thom, Cambodia

Sambor Prei Kuk Temple Complex is the oldest known temple ruins in Cambodia.
We rode the tuk tuk for an hour outside of Kampong Thom.
Arriving at 7:00 am we were the only visitors on this hot day.
The Temples date back to the 7th century.
These are excellent examples of early Khmer stone carvings.
These were completed some 150 years before Angkor Wat.
The remote jungle setting and lack of development added to sense of adventure.
The area was just jungle and some clearings where the ruins are.
No tour guides...No kids selling trinkets...just trees and Temples.
Inside the Lion Temple.
The lack of anything out here also allowed full access...so cool!
The jungle is the old Temples biggest enemy.
The Temples are spread out in three groups with jungle in between.
An unmarked path connects the Temples.

Keep checking back as I update more travel adventures from Cambodia.
Next stop...Siem Reap!
